OSEA Chapter 51 Meeting April 2, 2009
Meeting called to order at 4:35 by Co-President Donna Crane.
Minutes: Motion by Dave Jensen, seconded by Elbert Garboden to accept minutes.
Minutes accepted.
Treasurer's report:$6,695.59. Motion made by Vicki Weckert, seconded by Sheron Gibb.
Call for nominations of officer candidates. President: Donna Crane and Paula
Kingsbury. Vice president: Vicki Weckert, Secretary: Rosemary Pasteris, Treasurer:
Dave Jensen, Megan Ause. Election being held through today’s meeting, ballots to be
counted afterward, officers installed at June meeting.
Scholarships: Two $500 scholarships available from our chapter to high school
seniors from THS/TuHS or OSEA relatives. Applications are available in counselor
offices or from Rosemary Pasteris, and are due back by April 24th.
Website: Donna and Diana Miller demonstrated finding and using our chapter website,
available at http//osea.aft.org/51/ (or go to OSEA page for link to local chapter).

Scholarship form available on line, contract information could be posted in the
future. Also have paid ads on the site.
Nominations taken for conference delegates (June 25-27 in Salem). Donna Crane, Paula
Kingsbury, Dave Jensen, Rosemary Pasteris, Elbert Garboden, Barbara Pugh, Linda
McDaniel, Vivian Palm, Jolene Ragsdale, Megan Ause. We have 10, but need
alternates, so please consider adding your name. Contact Paula or Donna for info.
Classified of the Year: Building reps voted for one of four names on ballot. All
building winners and their principals/supervisors are invited to the May
meeting/social where we’ll honor them and announce district winner.
Budget: Won’t discuss cuts until firm numbers are given, but goal for union is to
save jobs. Please send any suggestions towards this goal to Paula or Donna. Will
call extra meeting if there’s important information to share; please attend!
Discussed RIF language in contract: Article 12, page 15 in purple copy of contract.
Insurance: In June we’ll discuss insurance choices for next year (will include 4
options again). Could be adding Providence. All providers are “out of area” once
you leave Oregon.
Question came up on instructional assistants in classroom of new Title I schools.
They’ll need a 2 year degree or can take a test (OSEA help available). Library
assistants should prepare for this as well.
OSEA dues are deductible on taxes.
Drawings: Elbert Garboden won $10 Freddie’s gift card. Becky Gonzalez would have
won $70. Name will be drawn next meeting for both $70 cash prize.
Thanks to Marlene Miller for treats, and Mary Addison & Alberta Rider library for
hosting us. Next meeting will be our Classified of the Year Social, May 7th at 4:30,
@ Alberta Rider’s library.
